The Thing About Valentine's Day

I really don't like Valentine's Day. I have never been really able to describe exactly why. I always saw my friends or people I knew get so worked up for this silly holiday. It seemed corny as hell. Maybe it's because I saw my parents do more arguing than loving when I was growing up. Maybe it's because I am more of an introverted person and like spending time by myself. Maybe it's because I feared rejection so much that I never really put myself out there and asked a girl to be my valentine when I was younger. Maybe it's a combination of the three.

Nonetheless, I think it is great that sometimes in a world that has so much hate in it, we can stop and cherish those people who mean a lot to us, even if it is for only one day. Because we as a society love to be so busy that we forget to enjoy the little things. We forget to tell our loved ones how much they mean to us. We forget to remind ourselves that we love who we are.

Here's to many more Valentine's Days that remind us to love ourselves and our lives a little bit more.
